Chesnut, 86, of Hiawatha, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997 at the Falls City Care Center, where she had been a resident since April of 1987. She was born Feb. 20, 1911 in Neosha[sic] Falls, Ks., the daughter of Albert and Jennie Bryant Castan. She was a member of the Reserve Christian Church and served as secretary-treasurer of the church's Sunday School for 21 years. Gladys was married to Floyd E. Chesnut on Oct. 31, 1931 in Hiawatha. He preceded her in death April 13, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son Dwaine, March 18, 1990, twin sisters Vada and Vera in infancy, and four brothers, Harold, George, Fred and Earl. Survivors include a son, Leonard Chesnut, Falls City, Neb., a sister, Mary Ebel, Falls City; two brothers, Carl Castan, Falls City and Elmer Castan, Nebraska City, Neb.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug 20, 10:30 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Falls City, with Larry D. Chesnut officiating. Pallbearers will be James Mueller, Buel Aller, Jerry Aller, Terry Aller, Jim Aller, all of Hiawatha and Harold Roesch, Reserve.
