Gladys was born on February 8, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Chesick) Kasal in Rural Chelsea. She attended country school till 8th grade and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1945. On February 12, 1951, Gladys married Lawrence Spinler on the Spinler family farm in rural Chelsea. Together they worked the farm and raised their family. Gladys liked gardening, flowers, crosswords, puzzles, and was a great baker. In her youth she enjoyed spending time with the neighbors.
