Description	:	Gladys Johnson was born May 21, 1918, in Logan Township, Minnehaha County, SD to Gisle and Marie Johnson on her grandfather's homestead. She was the fifth child in a family of six; there were four brothers and a younger sister. Her education began at Logan Valley Grade School, and she graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1937. Gladys was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1934. Gladys continued her education and graduated from Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, NE. Read More	Gladys Johnson was born May 21, 1918, in Logan Township, Minnehaha County, SD to Gisle and Marie Johnson on her grandfather's homestead. She was the fifth child in a family of six; there were four brothers and a younger sister. Her education began at Logan Valley Grade School, and she graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1937. Gladys was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1934. Gladys continued her education and graduated from Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, NE. On September 16, 1939, Gladys married Max Holliday, who was in the U.S. Navy. They lived in San Diego, CA until he was sent overseas. After Max's discharge, they lived in Los Angeles, CA, and moved to Sioux Falls in 1945. Max joined the Sioux Falls Fire Department. Gladys worked at the Muscular Dystrophy Association and retired with her husband in 1974. She later worked at Sioux Falls College in the music department. She was a resident of The Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls, since August, 2010. In 1963, Gladys and her husband became charter members of the Sioux Empire Gem and Mineral Society. They participated in field trips throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Gladys was also a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in Rachel Circle; the Minnehaha Count Historical Society; RSVP; Sioux Valley Genealogical Societ; Sioux Valley (Sanford) Hospital Auxiliary; Life Goes On; Sons of Norway and Nordettes and Red Hat Society. Grateful for having shared her life are one son, Arden (Sharyol) of Atwood, KS; two daughters, Shirley (Howard Buus) Ness of Watertown, SD and Liane (David) Hostler, seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and many other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Max; five brothers; one sister and one grandson. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery fund.
