Description	:	her parents were William Kerr and Jessie Silna Lee Green Stimpson. she was preceded by her 2 sisters Betty S. Steffey and Wilma S. Spillers. she was born in Winston Salem, NC and she passed away at sunrise assisted living in NC. she graduated from Harry P. Harding high school where she was the only female trombonist in the orchestra. in her junior year, she was voted most photogenic girl in Charlotte city schools by a panel that included Tom Franklin, a well known photographer for the Charlotte news. during those years she was an avid roller skater, having learned when she... Harding high school where she was the only female trombonist in the orchestra. in her junior year, she was voted most photogenic girl in Charlotte city schools by a panel that included Tom Franklin, a well known photographer for the Charlotte news. during those years she was an avid roller skater, having learned when she was just three years old. on Sep. 22, 1947, she married Thomas G. Davenport. they divorced in 1996 after 49 years. she was active in the order of the eastern star, having joined the mizpah chapter in 1961. for over 25 years she held 13 of 18 stations of the order. she was also worthy matron in 1979-1980. In the early sixties she was a member of the queen city sweet adelines where she sang bass. always a good organizer, in the sixties and seventies she was president of the minikins at the red fez club, and the lamecs at the Mecklenburg shrine club, both of which were ladies clubs made up of wives of masons and shriners. she also belonged to the united daughters of the confederacy. her great grandfather was Lt. Charles McDowell Suddreth, 26th regiment North Carolina volunteers. besides family and friends, her next love was dancing. from the 70’s to the 90’s she danced ballroom, jitterbug, square dance, round dance, and line dancing. in later years she would have friends over just to dance in the garage. and finally, she was loyal, committed, and strong. she was always organized and decisive. she was generous with her love, time and resources. she will be missed.
