Description	:	Gleen David Kite, 91, of Shennandoah, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 14, 1923, in the Grove Hill area of Shennandoah, Va. and was the son of J. Frank and Eula McDaniel Kite. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Nelson Kite, George Ray Kite and Loyd Page Kite. Gleen graduated from Shennandoah High School in 1943 and was a member of Fields United Methodist Church in Shennandoah, where he served as administrative council chairman and Sunday school teacher. He was born Sept. 14, 1923, in the Grove Hill area of Shennandoah, Va. and was the son of J. Frank and Eula McDaniel Kite. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Nelson Kite, George Ray Kite and Loyd Page Kite. Gleen graduated from Shennandoah High School in 1943 and was a member of Fields United Methodist Church in Shennandoah, where he served as administrative council chairman and Sunday school teacher. He served our country in WWII from 1941-1946 and was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a member of the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613 and was recently honored as the oldest member of the post. He was an instrument technician at Merck for 42 years, played baseball the Shennandoah Indians team, coached and managed teams in Page and Rockingham Counties, was an avid golfer and played with Merck teams and was in a senior league. He shared his carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills to help his family members, friends and his church. He served on the Shennandoah Town Council 21 years. On June 22, 1946, he married Lena Carolyn Ringle, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Rick (Janice) Kite of Asheboro, N.C., Susan (Steve) Painter of Shennandoah and Penny (Powell) Markowitz of Luray; sister, Imogene Hull of Waynesboro; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kite of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Leigh (Rob) Hickman, David Kite, Bekka Painter, Ben (Carrie) Markowitz, Adam Markowitz, Whitney Markowitz; great grandchildren, Luke and Caroline Hickman, Hannah, Everett and Norah Markowitz; many neices and nephews, including Mike and Larry Sullivan, his "right hand men." Pastor Steven Creech will conduct a memorial service 11:30am Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Fields United Methodist Church in Shennandoah. The family will receive friends on hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery north of Shennandoah with military rites by Avis O.
