Fiebig was born on a farm near Loup City, Nebraska, on October 5, 1924. His parents were Albert and Bertha Fiebig. He graduated from Loup City High School in 1942. He taught in a one-room country school in Sherman County for one year.On June 17, 1943, he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Camp Hood, Texas, for basic infantry training. Subsequently, he was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program at Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles, CA. From there he entered Officers’ Candidate School at the Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieut. in the Army Corps of Engineers on January 10, 1945, and was assigned active duty in the South Pacific Theater. Glen served from New Guinea to Leyte and Manila in the Philippines and finally in Japan. He was discharged as a 1st Lieut. In 1946 Glen enrolled in the University of Nebraska in 1946 and graduated from Law School in 1951. He was admitted to the practice of law in Nebraska in 1951. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent and served in New Haven, CT, and Chicago, IL, until 1954 when he joined Albert Reddish in the practice of law in the firm Reddish & Fiebig in Alliance. He was elected County Judge in the 16th Judicial District of Nebraska in 1972 and served as County Judge until his retirement in 1991.For several years after his retirement, he was employed as Associate Director of the National Rifle Association’s Planned Giving Foundation.Glen and Lila Lee Vanderwerth were married June 4, 1955, in Denver, CO., and have lived in Alliance since that date.Glen and Lila had two children. Glen, Jr., who died of leukemia in 1992, received his bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Nebraska and his master’s in electrical engineering from Iowa State. He worked for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, MD.Glen and Lila established the Glen A. Fiebig, Jr. Memorial Scholarship at the University of Nebraska, for upperclassmen in electrical engineering.Glen was a Life Benefactor member of the NRA; served as Vice-President of the Boy Scout Area Council of Sand Hills District, Wyo-Braska, served as Chairman of the United Fund. He was also an American Legion life member, a trustee of Jay Cees. He had been president of the Alliance School board and president of the Chamber of Commerce. He served as a trustee of the Presbyterian Church and had been president of Rotary. He was a member of the Chancellor’s Club of the University of Nebraska Foundation. He was a member of the Republican State Central Committee. For many years he was secretary-treasurer of the Alliance Rifle Club. The new shooting facility of the Alliance Rifle Club is named the Glen Fiebig Range.Memorial services will be October 18 at the First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
