Read More	Waterloo Daily Courier Monday 04 June 1945 Farm Worker Drowns Near La Porte City Motorboiat Hits Snag in Swollen River, Capsizes Victim Seen By Men on Bridge, But Goes Under Before Help Arrives La Porte City, Ia. -- Glen Taft, 41, farm laborer, was drowned Sunday afternoon in the swollen Cedar River when the motor boat in which was riding alone struck a snag and overturned about 250 from the bridge a mile and a half east of La Porte City. Port Shaner, farmer, and Don Warford, proprietor of the D-X service station here, were standing on the bridge watching the high water and saw a pair of oars and a gasoline tank float under the bridge. Running to the opposite end of the bridge they said they looked upstream and saw the overturned motorboat and a man clinging to it. The boat floated closer to the bridge and lodged in some willows near the bank. Shaner and Warford said they talked to Taft for some time and that he seemed to be in no immediate danger. They sent word to Marshal Henry Kruse at La Porte City and he summoned Claire Hoffman of the Iowa State Highway Patrol. The officers drafted a motor boat owned by Dale Snyder but before they could reach Taft he went down. The body has not been recovered. Taft had been employed this spring by Urbin Brecher at the latter's farm south of La Porte City. He was born March 26, 1904, the son of Charles and Harriet Taft. He married Clara Dixon in 1927 and they later were divorced. Taft is survived by a daughter, Dorothy, 13; a brother Harry, La Porte City; his mother Mrs. Hattie Lynn, and a sister Mrs. Claude Young, both of La Porte City. Waterloo Daily Courier Tuesday 05 June 1945 Recover Body of Glen TAft La Porte City, Ia. -- The body of Glen Taft, 41, was recovered here at about 4 p.m. Monday about 40 yards downstram from where he was last seen Sunday afternoon after his boat capsized about 259 feet from the bridge east of here. Lt. Lloyd McKinney of the Waterloo Fire Department was credited with locating the body as he worked with a crew of La Porte City men in two boats. The body was hooked in a patch of willows toward the east bank of the swollen stream. Others in the rescue crew were Clifford Williams, Van Foster, Dale Snyder and Donald Warford. Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ashley and Waldroff Funeral Home. Burial will be in West View Cemetery.
