The three had departed from the place of business in Deweese at about 3:30 Friday afternoon to repair the well at the school which had been causing considerable trouble and had been ordered repaired by the school board. The well, which is about thirty feet from the school building, was almost directly below the power ilne (sic). It was surmounted by a pump, but not tower. According to Sheriff Harr, who investigated the accident, it seemed that the three men had apparently pulled three eighteen-foot sections of the pipe and detached them, and were about to pull the last eighteen-foot sections attached to a twenty-four foot section of pipe below, when the mishap occurred. It is believed the pipe came in contact with the line when the three men attempted to lay the piece down without the aid of a derrick. Merton Grossman, teacher of the school district, was the first to discover the tragedy when he prepared to leave the school house soon after 4 o'clock. The accident apparently happening a few minutes prior to that time. Grossman told Sheriff Harr that when he left the building he saw the three men lying dead near the well, and that the pipe had fallen away from the wires to the northeast. He also told officials that when he first discovered the bodies, he threw water on them in an attempt to revive them and then called officers. The three men were pronounced dead by Dr. Bell of Fairfield. Fry's body was the most severely burned of the three, receiving several burns on the hands and wrists, while the bodies of the other two were burned on the feet. Following a complete investigation by county officials and Wm. Behrns, Southern Nebraska's Clay county (sic) line superintendent, the bodies were taken to the Guy McLaughlin Funeral Home in Fairfield. Triple funeral services were held for the tree men at the Christian church (sic) in Deweese Monday afternoon with Rev. Todd Hubbell in charge of the Fry funeral and burial in the Pleasant Hill cemetery (sic). Rev Etherton of Guide Rock, in charge of the Bickel services with interment in the Hulverson cemetery (sic). Services for Fowler were in charge of Rev. Hanson with burial aat (sic) Fairfield. More than five hundred congregated to pay their last respects to the unfortunate victims. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Lyman Dan, Jay Hubbelll, Robert Harris and Artie Shaw, with Mrs. Cecil Keeney at the piano. Robert Glen Fowler Robert Glen Fowler was born near Fairfield Nebr., March 26, 1903, and departed this life Sept. 22, 1939 near Deweese, Nebraska, at the age of 36 years, 5 months and 26 days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fowler of Deweese. Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Barta of Harvard, Nebr., and Mrs. Carol Roth of Deweese and three brothers, Floyd and Murle of Deweese and Francis of Kremmling, Colo., besides seven nieces and two nephews; a very dear friend, Miss Gladys Bickel, and a host of other relatives and firends (sic). Burial was made in the Fairfield cemetery (sic)
