He was born on June 30, 1907 around Hebron, Nebraska to Walter F. and Blanche E. (Roos) Heimer. Glenn received his primary education on Hebron. At the age of twelve, he moved by railroad boxcar with all the family, including livestock and chickens, to Holyoke where he continued his education in the Holyoke public schools. On September 6, 1919, he was baptized into the Christian faith at First Christian Church. While in high school, he enjoyed playing basketball. Another of his accomplishments at this time was the starring role in the senior class play "Seven Keys to Baldplate." He graduated from Holyoke High in 1924 at the age of seventeen. From there he went to Chicago where he was trained as an electrician. Following this, he worked in Denver for the Wazee Electric Company. In 1934 the entire Heimer family attended the World's Fair in Chicago. On November 26, 1936 Glenn Heimer was married to Irene A. Fisbeck by Reverend Horn, the Christian Church minister. The 7 a.m. ceremony was extremely chilly but not more than the 200 mile trip to Denver in the 1933 Chevy Club Coupe with no heater. Four daughters were born to this union: Rosalie, Shirley, Glenda and LaRae. They made their home on a farm and ranch southwest of Holyoke where they continued working until 1975 when they retired and moved into town. Throughout his life, Glenn was very active in the community. As well as serving as a deacon in the Christian Church for many years, he served as president of the school board, was active in the Farmer's Union, and was a guiding force in the planning and building of the new grade school. Glenn enjoyed farming and ranching, especially working with animals. He farmed with two mules, Jack and Jen, for years. With ranching, he became quite an equestrian, but stopped horseback riding at the age of 75. To quote him: "When you have to get on a fence to get on the horse, it's time to quit!" After retirement, Glenn loved to have his children and grandchildren come home for a steak dinner, his favorite food. Even after his health was failing him, he always remained positive, never complaining about his ailments, but continued steadfast that he was "good" and doing fine. Above all, he delighted in the visits from his family and friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bernice Ferguson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene, and his four daughters, Rosalie Stone of Aurora; Shirley Schmidt and husband Leslie of Rawlins, Wyoming; Glenda Bauer and husband Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio; LaRae Hethcote and husband Tom of Holyoke; ten grandchildren, Rodney Schmidt and wife Talli; Scott Schmidt and wife Darlette; Nathan Stone and his Kathy; Todd Bauer and wife Elizabeth; Vania Stone Lively and husband Rob; Andra Stone; Thad Bauer and wife Joyce; Daniel Stone and wife Gita; Trevor Hethcote, Kasie Hethcote Smith and husband Mike; fourteen great grandchildren, Zachary and Kaitlyn Schmidt; Devon and Kelsey Schmidt; Emily, Mitchell, Elijah and Madison Stone; Sidney, Connor and Jacob Bauer; Amanda and Nicole Bauer; and Jack Smith; one brother, Harold Heimer and wife Velva of Holyoke, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all who loved him and considered him a blessing in their life. Services were held June 24 at First Christian Church in Holyoke.
