Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Jordan's Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Birr. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour before services at the church. Survivors include his wife, Martha; and a son, Glenn Jr. of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Irvin; and a brother, Ivan Bailey Bowdish. The son of John and Ida Calvert Bowdish, Mr. Bowdish was born Aug. 12, 1904, near Waubeek. He was born a Baptist and a Democrat. He married Martha Jane Chenoweth Feb. 28, 1929, in Lathrop, Mo. He was a graduate of Springville schools, attended Coe College, William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., and Warrensburg Missouri State Teachers College. Glenn spent seven years with the Redpath-Vawter Chautauous. He was part-owner of the Bowdish Store in Springville and in July 1936 he became Springville postmaster until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Bowdish was a member of the Jordan's Grove Baptist Church for more than 70 years and served as a deacon in the church. He was a Mason, Knight Templar and Shriner, and belonged to the White Shrine, OES and Royal Neighbors of America. He was also a charter member of the Linn County Historical Association and Lions Club and was a member of the County, State, and National Society of Postmasters, the Springville Library, Past Patron of the Love Chapter OES and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Retired Federal Employees Association, Alhambra Order of St. Louis and the AARP. -obituary, The Gazette [Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Ia.] (May 31, 1994)
