She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn C. Bowdish, who died May 27, 1994; a sister, Hattie Elizabeth Walker; and a brother, Dean Chenoweth. Martha Jane Chenoweth was born near Lathrop, Mo., on June 14, 1908, the daughter of Benjamin Matthew Chenoweth and Mary Belle Van Winkle. She was a graduate of Lathrop High School, attended Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., and graduated from Chillicothe Business College in Missouri. She married Glenn Calvert Bowdish Feb. 28, 1929, and they made their home in Springville. To this union came one son to bless their home in June 1938. Martha was assistant postmaster for over 28 years at the Springville Post Office. Her husband Glenn was head postmaster from 1936-1974. Martha was a member and past matron of Order of Eastern Star; past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge; past recorder (20 years) of Royal Neighbors of America; past president of Social Order Beauceant; member of White Shrine; Daughters of the Nile; and Progressive Club of Springville. She was a member and past regent of Marion Linn Daughters of the American Revolution. Martha was a retired member of the Federated Club of Springville; a charter member of Linn County Historical Society; and a life member of the State Historical Society of Iowa. Other memberships include the Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), both local and national, and AARP. She was a longtime member of the Christian Church in Lathrop, Mo., and a member of the Hugenot Society of Iowa. Memorials may be sent to Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson St., Saint Charles, MO 63301 in memory of Martha for Faith United Methodist Church in St. Charles, Mo.
