Funeral services for Glenn Slagle will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Rev. David Rogula will officiate and the musician will be Marilyn Kriegel. Honorary casket-bearers will be Diane Foster, Kim Morris, Michelle Walz and Jennifer Walz. Slagle, son of Charles F. and Mertie Owens Slagle was born October 8, 1913, at the farm home, Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa. He attended a rural school and graduated from the Montezuma High School in 1932. He then assisted with farming until 1936, when he entered into business with Swift & Company in Newton, IA. In 1938 he was united in marriage to Fern Thompson and they made their home in Newton. In 1946 they established their home in Brooklyn, known as "Brookside Acres." Glenn was associated with The Brooklyn Co-op Creamery Association for 25 years of which he was a trustee upon its dissolution. He also farmed and raised livestock. He also helped in the BGM transportation and food service departments. Glenn was a member of Grace United Methodist church, Kiwanis Club, Farm Bureau and honorary member of F. F. A. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, The Iowa Horse Councils, and life member of the American Shetland Pony Club. He was a member of the Area Six Midwest Pony Breeders Association and the Iowa Draft Pony Association. He was a 4-H leader and fair superintendent for many years. Glenn was a devoted community and family man. His parents; his wife who died June 30, 2005; a son, William; three brothers, Lester Slagle, Gilbert Slagle and Leonard Slagle; and a son-in-law, Robert May preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Theda May of Malcom, IA, Robert Slagle and wife Pat of Malcom and Linda Walz and husband Roger of Tama, IA; ten grandchildren, Eugene May, Diane Foster, Jim May, Kim Morris, Scott Slagle, Dean Slagle, Don Slagle, Michelle Walz, Jennifer Walz, and Matthew Walz; four great grandchildren, Tyler Slagle, Lauren Slagle, Tanner Foster and Tucker Foster; and three step great grandchildren, Alana Grace, Aaron Grace and Ben Rae.
