She was raised in New Sharon and graduated from New Sharon High School with the Class of 1948. Fran married Ferril Butcher on July 11, 1948, at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Ferril died on November 16, 1968. Fran married Bill Tinkle on May 31, 1969, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The family moved to the Leona Tokle farm near Grinnell and later to the Ruth Hannay farm near Grinnell. Fran was employed at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, Brenton Bank, and was bookkeeper for the Malcom Elevator for several years, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, traveling, and family gatherings. Fran is survived by her daughter, Marsha Gearhart of Newton; son, Terry (Carol) Butcher of Durham, North Carolina; stepson, Bill (Nancy) Tinkle of Grinnell; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Ferril Butcher and Bill Tinkle; son-in-law, Harry Gearhart; step daughter, Judy Brown; two sisters, Genevieve Clark and Macel Van Gorp; and her brother, Keith Miller.
