Description	:	Macel Van Gorp, 90 of Dallas Center formerly of New Sharon, passed away peacefully June 25, 2008 at the Spurgeon Manor Care Facility in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon with Reverend David Ewing of the Dallas Center First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the West Liberty Cemetery near Montezuma. Macel Rebecca Van Gorp, daughter of Lafe and Hazel (Swangel) Miller was born August 24, 1917 in Montezuma, Iowa. She graduated from New Sharon High School in 1934. After high school she taught country school in the New Sharon area until being united in marriage to Bob Van Gorp on November 30, 1935. To this union three children were born, Shirley, Sheryl and Duane. Macel enjoyed visiting with friends, taking care of her grandchildren and her faith. She was a member of the First Christian Church in New Sharon. Her memory is honored by a daughter, Shirley (John) Thomas of Dallas Center; her son, Duane (Deb) Van Gorp of Des Moines; her sister, Francine (Bill) Tinkle of Grinnell; her son-in-law, Glen Kain of Jackson, Missouri; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Macel was preceded in death by her parents, Lafe and Hazel Miller; her husband, Bob; her daughter, Sheryl Kain; her brother, Keith Miller and her sister Genevieve Clark.
