Read More	Gloe Elton Hockett was born March 5, 1917 at the Hockett homestead south of Randall to Winnie Malinda Lotspeich and Manzo Alvin Hockett, and died Jan 7, 1996 at the Andover Health Care Center, Andover Kan. He was named for familiy friends, the Gloes. His early years were spent on the farm where he learned to hunt, fish and work. He attended rural schools in the area and Pleasant Prairie Church. Later, he joined the Randall Christian Church. His grandfather, Alvin Hockett, lived with them after his wife died and had a great influence on Gloe's life. He attnded Randall Rural High School until he was severely injured in youthful horseplay. During his lengthy recuperation, he began drawing. He did not return to school. Gloe worked as a farm hand and helped his father drill wells. Together, they rebuilt a livery stable that had bleonged to his great-unle John, converting it into a blacksmith shop. He was married to Harriett Elizabeth Jaske at Beloit, Kan. June 7, 1938. They had five children: Marylee Jeanette, Barbara Jean, Dennis Gail, Richard Royal and Nyla Beth. His wife died March 23,1987. He was involved in a car-horse accident in 1942 with a welding salesman. That man encouraged him to learn to weld by giving him a welder and an instruction book. Gloe practiced welding every night until he became proficient. He spent the remainder of his life serving people of a wide area as a welder, plumber, installer of windmills, pumps and water systems. His uncanny knowledge of art and welding aided him as a fabricator of parts to fix almost everything. As his health deteriorated, he resumed his interrupted art work, using colored pencils and pens. He spent many hours drawing sights around the area and shared them with friends. In December 1994, he moved to Wichita to live with his daughters there and in Andover, as he was unable to care for himself. In April 1995, he developed pneumonia and was hospitalized. The next month, he moved to the Andover Health Care Center. Survivors include his five children and their spouses; a sister, Cleo and Lewis Butts; eight grandchildren and other relatives. His body was cremated as requested and arranged by him. Due to ill health of his daughter, Barbara, Cleveland, Ohio, the memorial service has been postponed until March.
