Gloria died Friday, January 4, 2013, at her home near Spencer. Gloria M. (Hambek) Rust, daughter of Joseph L. and Marie (Sedlacek) Hambek, was born August 24, 1926, on a farm located south of Spencer, Nebraska. Gloria attended Boyd County Rural School District #6, and later graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. After receiving her Normal Training from Wayne State College, Gloria taught in rural schools in Holt and Boyd Counties. On May 26, 1947, Gloria was married to Willard M. Rust at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer. Gloria and Willard began their married lives on a farm near Bristow, Nebraska. In 1955, they moved to their present farm northwest of Spencer. In 1969, Gloria and Willard moved from their original farm site near the Ponca Creek, and built a new house along Highway 12, a place that Willard and Gloria called home for 43 years, and where Gloria passed away Friday, January 4, 2013. Gloria worked beside her husband as he ran Rust Construction with their sons, and later operated Rustgo Company, until their retirement. Gloria was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer, she was also a member of the Altar Society, serving as an officer for several years. Gloria was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, Gloria enjoyed gardening, especially her rose garden. She also enjoyed painting, crafts, cooking, and collecting dolls. Gloria also enjoyed music and was very proud to be a part of the Spencer Community Players. She found joy in traveling, and was blessed to go to Europe three times. Gloria enjoyed serving the community. She was involved in the Spencer Community Choir, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. Gloria was a member of the Thrifty Homemakers' Club, and her Rosary Group. Gloria is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Willard M. Rust of Spencer, Nebraska; sons, Willard J. (wife Patsy) Rust of Spencer, Roger L. (wife Leslie) Rust of Spencer, and Rodney J. (wife Kim) of Spencer; six grandchildren, Jason Keller of Crestwood, Kentucky, Thomas Rust of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael (wife Pamela) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Steven Rust of Lincoln, Karmen Rust of Spencer, and Cameron Rust of Spencer; a brother, John Hambek of Bristow, Nebraska; a sister, Margaret Ludeman of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; and a brother, James Hambek of Camarillo, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Hambek; and a grandson, Ryan Rust.
