Her funeral service was Saturday, March 24th, at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church rural Yale. Burial was in the church cemetery. Goldie was born on the family farm December 16, 1930, to Joshua (Josua) J. and Anna Hofer, at rural Carpenter, South Dakota. She attended school in Milford Township, was her dad’s helper in the field, and enjoyed doing farm chores. She attended Huron High School and worked for Dr. John S. Tschetter’s hospital as a nurse aid. Goldie graduated from High School in1949 and attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska for one year. At the age of thirteen, Goldie accepted Christ as her Savior during a revival meeting and was baptized in the James River. Jesus was her steady Rock through all of life’s trials. She became a member of Bethel Church at rural Yale. She taught in Bethel Church Sunday School and Bible School. She was a faithful part of the Ladies Missionary Society and chairperson for several years.Goldie had a lifelong interest in the community ministries of James Valley Christian School and Byron Bible Camp and never retired from her volunteering service with these organizations. On September 1, 1950, Goldie married Palmer Wedel. They made their home in the Carpenter area. To this union were born three children: Winona, Paul and Helen. Goldie was actively engaged in farming, ranching and homemaking while caring for her handicapped daughter, Helen. Winona, Delvin, and their daughters lived nearby. After Palmer’s passing, Goldie continued to live in her rural home and helped her son, Paul, on the farm until his death in 2015. Goldie was supportive of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, she loved their visits and enjoyed talking with them on the telephone and sending greeting cards. For several years, Goldie worked part time at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home where her daughter Helen was a resident. She reached out to co-workers, and encouraged the staff, residents and families. Goldie’s hobbies were going to auctions, collecting pretty dishes and linens, and restoring antique furniture which can be found in several homes across the country. She celebrated the pioneer spirit by creating a float and riding in the neighboring town centennials. She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer on June 5, 1994, her daughter, Helen on October 13, 2002; and her son, Paul on September 27, 2015; and two sisters, Mary Wollmann and Ida Hohm. Also, preceding her in death were her sister-in-law Elsie Hofer and brother-in-law Jim Hohm. Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Winona and Delvin Stahl of Huron; three granddaughters, Jennifer Stahl and Charity Stahl of Omaha, Nebraska; Tiffani and Andy Pauls of Wichita, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Malachi and Aleah Pauls; one brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Agnes Hofer of Huron; one brother-in-law, Sam Wollmann of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rudy Brockmueller # 47917004 provided links to parents. 3-21-2018
