Description	:	Ida Anna Hohm, 92, of Huron and former rural Yale resident, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral was Tuesday, August 1st, at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Yale. Interment was in the church cemetery. She attended country school in Milford Township, graduated from Yale High School, and studied at General Beadle College in Madison, SD. She then taught public school for one year. Her funeral was Tuesday, August 1st, at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Yale. Interment was in the church cemetery. Ida Anna Hofer was born at home on November 10, 1924, to Joshua and Anna Hofer. She attended country school in Milford Township, graduated from Yale High School, and studied at General Beadle College in Madison, SD. She then taught public school for one year. Ida married the love of her life, Jimmy Hohm, June 18, 1944, at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church, where she was an active member. They farmed together all their married life, until they moved to Violet Tschetter Memorial Home the summer of 2014, where she received excellent care. Ida took great pride in her 72 year marriage, her sons and daughter, nine grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren, friends, church, and community. She loved all of her neighbors and helped and encouraged them. A close neighbor described Ida as special because she acted from her heart and kept in mind the hearts of others, that she was admired, precious, and could never be replaced. Ida was compassionate, loving, and an amazing woman, filled with the love of the Lord. Many will miss her sweet, encouraging letters, and the “visual treats” she included. In her younger years, Ida enjoyed painting the exteriors of farm buildings, raising chickens, gardening, and canning. She was famous for her fried chicken! She painted many unique oil pieces of art, which included familiar rural landscapes and family portraits. She also enjoyed reading the Bible, teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir, and being a member of the Dakota Harmony Singers for 12 years. Two cherished trips were to the Holy Land and Russia. Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Phillip Hohm, rural Huron, SD; son, Dr. Charles (Marlene) Hohm, San Diego, CA; daughter, Bethel (Chris) Serck, Hudson, SD; son, Ludwig (Julie) Hohm, rural Yale, SD; brother, Ben (Agnes) Hofer, Huron, SD; sister, Goldie Wedel, Carpenter, SD; brother-in-law, Sam Wollman, Huron, SD; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Amy & Jeff Kempf (Ellie, Jacob), Huron, SD; Anna-Marie & Steve Pelletier (Annaliese, Jillian), Alpine, CA; Dr. Jonathan & Sarah Hohm (Mason), Alameda, CA; Alexandra & Matthew Sadowski (Jackson), Temecula, CA; Joshua & Kasanda Serck, Fairfax, VA; Dr. Luke & Stephanie Serck (Sydnee, Evan, Isaac), Yankton, SD; Mary & Cory Hughes (Jack, Caroline, Hazel), Sioux Falls, SD; Jesse & Katie Hohm (Elaina, Alexandra, Audri, Elizabeth), Huron, SD; and Susanna & Dan Strutz, Mountain Lake, MN. Ida also leaves behind Norma’s loving family and Marlene’s family in Canada whom she did not get to meet. Ida cherished her many nephews and nieces. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Hohm on August 11, 2016; parents, Joshua and Anna Hofer; sister, Mary Wollman; daughters-in-law, Vicki Hohm, Linda Hohm, and Norma Hohm; brother-in-law, Palmer Wedel; sister-in-law, Elsie Hofer; niece, Helen Wedel; nephew, Paul Wedel; sisters & brothers-in-law, Matilda & Henry Tschetter, Viola Hohm, Dr. Ted & Martha Hohm, Dr. Paul & Carol Hohm, Olga & Dr. William Pfautz, Ewald & Marguerite Hohm, and Ella & Roger Bradfield; nephews, Dr. Tom Tschetter and Bill Pfautz; and niece, Marsha Hohm-Paladino. Special thanks from the Hohm family to Dr. Robert Hohm and the staff at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home for the attentive care given to our mother.
