Description	:	OTTUMWA — Goldie L. O'Dell, 96, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society. The daughter of a coal miner, she was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Floris to John and Lucy Trent Breckenridge. Goldie married Floyd O'Dell in 1932 in Lancaster, Mo. Goldie had worked at the John Morrell plant for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1973. Earlier in her life, when her husband joined the Army, Goldie moved to Burbank, Calif., to be closer to him while he was serving in the South Pacific at the time. The daughter of a coal miner, she was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Floris to John and Lucy Trent Breckenridge. Goldie married Floyd O'Dell in 1932 in Lancaster, Mo. Goldie had worked at the John Morrell plant for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1973. Earlier in her life, when her husband joined the Army, Goldie moved to Burbank, Calif., to be closer to him while he was serving in the South Pacific at the time. She began working for Lockheed assembling P38 Lightening Fighter Aircraft. She and the other women known as "Rosie the Riveters" of World War II proved the viability of women in the workplace. She was an avid reader and had attended First Church of God. Goldie is survived by her son Phil (Donna) of Covington, La.; nieces, Linda Rowe and Patty Gruwell as well as many other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a special friend of the family, Jeff Heland. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, John, Lincoln and Harold; and one sister, Elsie Miller. Visitation will begin Friday at noon at the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ricky Fiedler officiating. Burial will follow at Shaul Cemetery.
