Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Shirley (Crosby) Romkey and the late Gordon Romkey Jr. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Imperial Oil Refinery, Dartmouth, for 32 years. He was a 25 year volunteer with the Eastern Passage Fire Department. He and his family operated the Crescent Beach General Store. He was a past High Priest and Chaplain of LaHave Chapter No. 17, R.A.M., Past Grand Master of Third Veil, Grand Chapter; Past Master of Acacia Lodge No. 39 A.F. & A.M., Bridgewater. Gordie will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and his kind heart. Surviving are his wife, the former Cheryl Wilson; daughter, Charmaine (Wayne Mosher), Dublin Shore; sons, James (Bonnie), St. George, Utah; Raymond, West Dublin; grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew and Michael Mosher, Brennan and Mariah Larsen; sister, Sheila (Neil) Chambers, Crescent Beach; special aunt, Frances Romkey, Crescent Beach; niece, Jennifer (Brian), Ste. Croix; nephew, Thomas (Jodi) Chambers; several great-nieces and nephews. No visitation in the funeral home by request. Family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in West Dublin Hall. A private family graveside service will be held in Romkey Family Cemetery, Crescent Beach, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society - Relay for Life, The Lodge that Gives, South Shore Palliative Care Services or a charity of your choice.
