(Congregational Church Ledger by Rev Schwabenland) "Gotthilf Emanuel Yanke, 67, pioneer Ruff rancher, during the past 25 years a resident of the area close to Odessa, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs D E Roloff, on Wednesday. Mr Yanke, born in Russia in 1879, came to America with his wife in 1902 and made his home on a homestead in the Ruff section, where he remained until 1912, then making his home with the Roloff family, where he spent the remaining 25 years of his life. His wife died in 1909. Survivors include two sons, Ben and Daniel, of the Marlin area, three daughters, Mrs Emma Roloff, Odessa; Mrs Emelia Gibson, Seattle, and Mrs Lydia Maddox, Kellogg, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services have been set for Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the Pilgrim Congregational church, with the Rev J C Schwabenland officiating, with burial in the Odessa Cemetery. The Strate Funeral Home is in charge." She left the family where they were living near Odessa, Washington as a teenager and her whereabouts remain a mystery. Two other daughters Luisa and Marie were born in near Odessa, Washington after the family's immigration from Russia in 1903. They died in infancy. Gotthilf was married again for a brief time after his first wife died. 'Emanuel Janke Granted Divorce. A decree of divorce was granted to Emanuel Janke, a farmer of the Odessa country, last Friday by Judge Sessions of the Lincoln County Superior court, after textimony had been given by Janke and other witnesses that his wife, Rosina Janke, had left him after residing but two days in Odessa, and gone back to the home of her parents in North Dakota. Mr. Janke was married in Dakota in Jun 1911, and he arrived in Odessa with his bride on the 5th of July 1911. On the 7th, she decided she did not like the state, so went back to the Dakotas where she has since remained. County Prosecuting attorney J.S. Freece, appeared in the case on behalf of the state, and Attorney F.J. Hoagland, represented the plaintiff. Odessa Record, Odessa, WA, 13 Feb 1914. " A son Andrew was born of this short marriage in 1912. His mother remarried Jacob Weishaar but was widowed by 1920. Andrew lived with his mother and maternal grandparents in North Dakota and later moved to San Joaquin Co., California with other family members prior to 1933.
