Her first husband was Christian Raugust, also in Odessa City Cemetery. The records of the death of some of her sons shows her maiden name to be Janke, which is also confirmed by the Janke family history. -------------------------------- b. 7-06-1875; d. 1-09-1919; "Mrs Jacob Schaal died at a Spokane hospital Friday afternoon about six o'clock following an operation for appendicitis and other complications. Mrs Schall had been sick but a few days and bedfast only one before she was taken to Spokane Thursday night. Her age was 44 years. Mrs Schall was born in South Russia in 1875 and there married (Mr Raugust). In 1900 they emigrated to America and settled southwest of Odessa in the Hoffensburg district. Both were great church workers and to them many claim belong the credit of the building of the Hoffensburg church. Mr Raugust died in 1907 (sic) and about two years later she was again united in marriage to Jacob Schall and until her death proved a devoted wife. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and nine children, five by her first husband and four by Mr Schall. All of them were at home when she died except her oldest son, Will Raugust, who was in the naval radio service at Harvard University. The body was brought home Saturday and funeral services conducted at the Hoffensburg church, the Rev G Graedel officiating after which the remains were not interred but temporarily placed in a grave at the church cemetery that her son, who is on the way home, might view them before they are permanently laid away." (Odessa Record: 1-17-1919) "Mrs Louise Schaal. Residence: RFD #1, Odessa. In US 20 yrs. ½ day at Spokane, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Female, white, married, housewife. Wife of Jacob Schall. Birth: July 6, 1875, Russia. Age: 43 yrs 6 mos 4 days. Father: A Yunkee born Russia; Mother: J Pottzer, born Russia. Informant: Jacob Schaal. Death: Jan 10, 1919 at 7 a.m. at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane. Cause: Acute Oedema of lungs following operation for septic peritonitis. Contributory: Perforated appendix. Autopsy: No. J G Cunningham, MD, Spokane. Burial: Odessa, WA. Undertaker: Smith & Co." (Spokane Health Dept and Bur. of Vital Statistic: Death Certificate) -------------------------- Originally buried in the Hoffnungsberg Cemetery, Louisa's remains were removed and reinterred in the Odessa City Cemetery prior to 1950.
