Dowden, 72, of 102 North Schuyler street, died at the Ottumwa hospital today at 8:55 a.m. The daughter of Samuel and Sarah Wilford, she was born December 2, 1877, in Ottumwa where she lived all her life. Her marriage to George Dowden took place here in 1900. She attended the Methodist church. For 20 years Mrs. Dowden and her husband operated a grocery business on Madison avenue. Her husband preceded her in death in 1945. Her parents, one brother and two sisters also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dowden is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Janet Hallberg of Ottumwa; one grandson, Budd Jaye Hallberg of Ottumwa; one brother, Grover Wilford of Los Angeles; and four sisters, Mrs. Ava Belknap and Mrs. Verna Orman, both of Ottumwa, Mrs. Gustava Cowan of Glendale, Calif. and Mrs. Blanche Parker of San Francisco. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of Dr. C.R. Reed of the First Methodist church in Washington, Iowa, assisted by Mr. Malvin H. Lundeen of the First Lutheran church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. --------------- "DOWDEN SERVICES," From Ottumwa Daily Courier, November 23, 1950: Funeral services for Mrs. Grace B. Dowden, 102 North Schuyler street, who died Wednesday at Ottumwa hospital, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of First Methodist church in Washington, assisted by the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen of First Lutheran church here. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Horace Williams, Jack Kitterman, Dick Kitterman, Albert H. Swanson, Harold Chedister and Sam Burggraaf.
