Description	:	Grace Evelyn Depew was born 6 Oct 1928 near Hagan, Lee Co., VA, to Kenneth Emory Depew and Dora Ann Jones. Grace was the youngest of eleven children--eight girls and three boys. Bob, the oldest sibling, was born to Kenneth and first wife Laura Jordan, who died when Bob was born. Kenneth remarried Dora Ann Jones about 1907. Their first son Dewey died in infancy. Read More	Grace Evelyn Depew was born 6 Oct 1928 near Hagan, Lee Co., VA, to Kenneth Emory Depew and Dora Ann Jones. Grace was the youngest of eleven children--eight girls and three boys. Bob, the oldest sibling, was born to Kenneth and first wife Laura Jordan, who died when Bob was born. Kenneth remarried Dora Ann Jones about 1907. Their first son Dewey died in infancy. Two girls followed--Mary and Geneva; then, Harmon, a boy; followed by six girls--Ida, Birdie, Bonnie, Carrie, Virginia, and Grace. The first six children were born in Sneedville, Hancock Co., TN, and the next five children were born in Lee Co., VA. Grace spent her early years on a farm in Lee Co., VA. She attended Long Hollow School until about 1937-38 when her family moved to Highland, Howard Co., MD, where her oldest sister Mary had moved. Grace's father was able to find work as a farmer on the Harrison Farm and they lived there a number of years. While they were living on the Harrison Farm, Grace's sister Virginia became ill and died at the age of fourteen. Kenneth and Dora were separated for a time. Kenneth moved to Michigan to work in a Defense Plant building crates for the Army, and Dora and Grace moved from the Harrison Farm to another house nearby. Dora and Grace moved a second time to Browningsville, Montgomery Co., MD, to a large house by a stream, and Kenneth returned from Michigan and he and Dora were reunited. About 1947 Grace met and married Herbert Linden Moody. He was born 4 Apr 1924 in Baltimore, MD, and was in the Army. They had a son born in 1948 in Beaumont, TX, whom they named Herbert Linden Jr. They returned to Maryland and little 6-mo. old Herbert passed away in March of 1949. It was a rough year as Grace also lost her mother Dora in May of 1949. Two more children were born to this union: Larry Herbert and Gary Dennis. Grace and Herbert were separated and Grace went to live with her father Kenneth in Browningsville with her two young boys. In August of 1952, she learned that her estranged husband Herbert Moody had been murdered in Brooklyn, NY. In 1952 Grace met another soldier, Eugene Curtis Prowant. Gene was born 12 Apr 1920 in OH. Gene and Grace were married on 29 May 1953 in Rockville, Montgomery Co., MD, and three children were born to this union: Eugene Curtis Jr., Carol Elaine, and Anita Yvonne. Grace passed away 7 Nov 2004 in Columbia, Howard Co., MD.
