M. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Hawkeye, Iowa. The Reverend Irving Sandberg officiated. The organist was Linda Fritz and special music was provided by Arthur and Clarence Amundson. The Casket Bearers were: Roger Bradley, Kurtis Amundson, Jeffrey Bradley, John Freeman, Scott Miller, Leslie Amundson, Mark Westpfahl. Grace Genevieve Westpfahl, the daughter of Elbert Helmer and Laura Bell Parrott Helmer, was born December 4, 1907 near West Union, Iowa. She passed away Monday night, June 17, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 94 years, six months and thirteen days. Grace was baptized in 1920 in the Baptist Church in West Union, Iowa and confirmed in May of 1933 in the Lutheran Church at Sumner. Grace attended the rural schools near her home and the West Union High School. On December 15, 1925 Grace was married to Carl A. Westpfahl in the Lutheran Church at Oelwein, Iowa. To this union ten children were born. Grace was employed by Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for 17 years. She was a gracious person and enjoyed her family. Grace was a volunteer at The Senior Citizens Center in Hawkeye, Iowa, and was awarded the Governor's Volunteer of the Year award in 1999. She loved to cook and bake. Her family remembers the chocolate pies, the chocolate chip cookies, and the many coffee cakes that she used to bake at Christmas time. Grace loved to sew and work in the garden. She also loved to dance. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, who died in 1984, a son, Wallace Westpfahl two daughters, Louise Mary Westpfahl, who died in infancy, and Florentine "Teen" Hauser, two grandsons, Bruce Freeman and Michael Bradley, a great grandson, Steven Pluss, three sons-in-law, Conrad Hauser, Russell Miller, and Charles "Brad" Bradley, two brothers, Russell and Arthur Helmer, and four sisters, Lois Fritz, Marian Logan, Gladys Helmer, and Josephine Powers. Surviving are her children, Lorraine Miller of Des Plaines, IL, Marjorie Bradley of Newton, IA, Kenneth (Ruth) Westpfahl of Viburnum, MO, Ruth (Kenneth) Amundson of Clermont, IA, Elbert "Bert" (Joyce) Westpfahl of Hiawatha, IA, Betty (Dale) Freeman of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Richard (Barbara) Westpfahl of Roseville, MN. There are 25 grandchildren: Conrad Hauser, Jr., Susan Roberds, Mary Lynn Hauser, Wendy Mermall, Craig Miller, Scott Miller, Charles "Chuck" Bradley, Jeffrey Bradley, Linda Paul, Roger Bradley, Jane Pluss, Dean Westpfahl, Kevin Amundson, Kurtis Amundson, Rochelle Holthaus, Roxanne Gross, Leslie Amundson, Colleen Dinan, Carolyn Nuss, Kathy Ferguson, Thomas Westpfahl, Brian Freeman, John Freeman, Laurie Jones, Mark Westpfahl.
