Description	:	Grace Leona Hofer began her earthly journey on May 22, 1921 on a farm west of Carpenter, in Union Township. He parents were Jacob B. and Katie M. (Kleinsasser) Hofer. Mother went to the lord on Thanksgiving evening, November 26, 1992, while a patient at the Huron Regional Hospital following a severe stroke that occurred 5 days earlier. She received her education at the Fairview Country School in Union Township and Doland High School, graduating in 1939. She attended the Emmanuel Mennonite Church all her life. Through the ministry of the church, she came to realize her need for salvation... Read More	Grace Leona Hofer began her earthly journey on May 22, 1921 on a farm west of Carpenter, in Union Township. He parents were Jacob B. and Katie M. (Kleinsasser) Hofer. Mother went to the lord on Thanksgiving evening, November 26, 1992, while a patient at the Huron Regional Hospital following a severe stroke that occurred 5 days earlier. She received her education at the Fairview Country School in Union Township and Doland High School, graduating in 1939. She attended the Emmanuel Mennonite Church all her life. Through the ministry of the church, she came to realize her need for salvation and to trust Christ as her savior. She was baptized as a witness of her faith on September 24, 1939 by Rev. Jacob Friesen and then became a church member. Mother loved her church and demonstrated this in her conversation, prayers, attendance, and participation. On October 11, 1939 she married John J. Hofer by the Rev. Joseph Hofer, at rural Hitchcock. Following her marriage, she and dad made their home at the Hofer farm southeast of Frankfort. To this union there were born three daughters and one son. Highlights of moms' life were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in October 1989; family trips to see relatives and friends in Canada and various parts of the US; and having the family home on special occasions. Grace will be remembered as a caring giving person. The first 19 years of her married life were spent with caring and sharing for her parents-in-law. Hospitality was a major part of her life during these 19 years and many that followed hosting family, friends, and various guest speakers and missionaries of the church. If she knew you and you were experiencing hardship it is likely she would mention your name in her prayers. Very likely it was this caring-giving spirit that made it difficult for mother to be content in this life following her stroke on March 10, 1990. This left her with limited mobility and the need of a care giver. She expressed a desire to go with the lord in recent months
