Description	:	John J. Hofer was born April 14, 1913 to Jacob M. and Rebecca (Hofer) Hofer at their farm in Antelope Township, south east of Frankfort, SD. He lived his entire life at the farm and in the house where he was born. The Blue Bell Country School, one mile east of his home, is where he received his education. On October 11, 1939 he was married to Grace Hofer by the Rev. Joseph Hofer at his rural Hitchcock Home. The union was blessed with three daughters, Judy, Donna, and Delia, and one son, Gordie. On October 11, 1939 he was married to Grace Hofer by the Rev. Joseph Hofer at his rural Hitchcock Home. The union was blessed with three daughters, Judy, Donna, and Delia, and one son, Gordie. Grace died November 26, 1992. Memorable family times included their 25th and 50th wedding anniversary open house celebrations and vacation trips to various parts of the United States and Canada. In addition to his farming occupation, in which he was engaged until his passing away, he enjoyed hunting, playing dominoes, and visiting with friends and acquaintances. John was honored several years ago for having served for over 50 years as Antelope Township Treasurer. When John was in his early thirties, he came to personal faith in Christ during evangelist meetings at the Emmanuel Church. He was baptized by the Rev. J.W. Kleinsasser and became a member of the Emmanuel Church, where he served as treasurer and trustee for many years. One of his favorite songs was O How I Love Jesus. Church attendance was always a priority. John went to be with his lord September 13, 2002 at the age of 89 years and five months as a result of a brain aneurysm and fall at the farm. He was preceded in death by his father in 1956; his mother, in 1958; his wife, in 1992; his brothers, Jacob R., Dave S., and Albert R.; and his sisters, Susie (Andrew) Tschetter, and Kate (Pete) Gross, and four siblings, in infancy
