Read More	Obit: Mrs. George Sweet Killed When Auto Goes in the Ditch Funeral Services at Methodist Church Monday Afternoon-Burial in Oakhill Cemetery. Mrs. George F. Sweet, 46, was killed Saturday afternoon near the Alburnett turn about five miles south of Central City, when the couple in which she was riding, driven by her son Douglas and carring also his bride of a week, left the paving and hurtled into the ditch, turning completely over once and throwing all the occupants out of the machine. The party was on the way to Cedar Rapids, where it had been planned the mother would assist her son and bride in choosing furniture with which to begin housekeeping. Mrs. Henry Lindley and Robert Heasty, both of this vicinity, saw the accident and claim the speed of the death car did not exceed 30 miles per hour. It was seen to suddenly swerve to the right and plunge down the eightfoot embankment. The three accident victims were taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital immediately by Mrs. Lindley and Mr. Heasty. It was there found that the elder Mrs. Sweet had succumbed. Douglas had suffered cuts and bruises about the body sutures were required to close a wound about the left ear. The bride sustained only minor scratches and bruises. Deputy County Coronor Dean Stauffacher was call and reported that examination of the death car revealed that the steering gear knuckle had apparently fallen apart. Douglas on being questioned, told authorities that he tried to turn the steering wheel to bring the car back into the road but that the wheel spun in his hand. The car was owned by William Mote. The coroner found that Mrs. Sweet's death was the result of an unavoidable accident. No inquest was held. Mrs. Sweet sustained five broken ribs and probably internal injuries. Grace Leora Swain was born at Paris, Iowa, March 21, 1889, and passed away, June 15, 1935, at the age of 46 years, 2 months and 25 dys. She was united in marriage to George F. Sweet on October 22, 1910, and to this union were born eight children. One died in infancy. She was a good mother and devoted to her home. Mrs. Sweet is survived by her husband; nine children, Mrs. Jennie Bishop, Mrs. Fleeta McMurrin, Donald, Douglas, Zelda, Yvonne, Marietta, Darwin and Dorrance: four step-children , Georgia, Eddie, Jay and Marston: two sisters, Mrs. Charles Kirk of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Ivan Beebe of Central City; and six brothers, Harry Waters of Central City, Edgar and Chester Waters of Chicago, Merle and Walter Waters of Coggon and Thomas Waters of Independence; and four granchildren, as well as other relatives, neighbors and friends who mourn her untimely passing. She will be greatly missed in the home which depended so much on her. To one who bears the sweetest name And adds a luster to the name; Who shares my joys, Who cheers when sad. The greatest friend I ever had. Long life to her, for there's no other Could take the place of my dear mother. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Espicopal church here Monday afternoon at 2:30 and burial was made in Oakhill cemetery.
