A private family inurnment was held at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, prior to the services. Grace Maxine Petersen, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. She was born on April 24, 1934 on a farm in Phelps County, Nebraska near Holdrege, the fifth of seven children born to Arthur Garfield and Judith Adina (Carlson) Englund. Grace received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating with the Holdrege High School class of 1953. On November 22, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Petersen and to this union one son, Michael Gene Petersen was born at rest on June 9, 1960. Grace enjoyed being a homemaker and throughout the years also worked outside the home at the Holdrege Hospital, Wheelers, First Security Bank, and Country General. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especial her little Yorkies, loved country music, weekend trips to Branson, Missouri, traveling and camping with Don, and spare time was spent tending to her garden. Grace was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. On June 18, 2014, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don. Besides her parents; son, Michael; and husband, Don; Grace was preceded in death by sister, Inez McElvain and her husband, Robert; brothers: LaVern Englund and LaMont Englund; sisters-in-law: Irene Davidson, Blanche Gbur and her husband, Barney, Lucile Erickson and her husband, Vernon, Dorothy Sundquist and her husband, Clinton and Ruby Petersen and her husband, Darrell; nephew, Jerald Erickson; and two nieces: Carol (Englund) Dolnicek and Carol Neuberger. Grace leaves to celebrate her life; brothers: Paul Englund and his wife, Shirley, James Englund and his wife, Edna all of Holdrege, and Dale Englund and his wife, Donna of San Jose, California; sisters-in-law: LaDonna Weismann and her husband, Max, and Jean Englund all of Holdrege; her four God Children: Becky Anderson, Terry Englund, Kathy Nantkes, and Steve Englund; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. There was no visitation, the family honored Grace’s wish for cremation. A memorial has been established in Grace’s honor and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Animal Shelter or to the donor’s choice.
