A long time Geneva resident and practicing attorney, Corbitt was born May 11, 1890 in Ozark, Alabama to Jesse W. and Sarah Corbitt. He married Ethel Sloan on January 2, 1919, in Washington D. C. A long time Geneva resident and practicing attorney, Corbitt was born May 11, 1890 in Ozark, Alabama to Jesse W. and Sarah Corbitt. He married Ethel Sloan on January 2, 1919, in Washington D. C. Ethel Sloan is the daughter of the Hon. Charles H. and Emma Sloan. Sloan was a Republican Congressman from Nebraska. Corbitt graduated from the University of Alabama and attended the University of Michigan and George Washington University. At the University of Alabama, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was the recipient of a Fitts scholarship. Corbitt served as the assistant librarian of the Library of the House of Representatives for a year, and then joined the Counselor Service where he served as Vice Counselor for the State Department in Lyons, France from 1918 to 1920. Following service in France, Corbitt moved to Geneva. He was admitted to the Nebraska Bar in 1921, and commenced the practice of law with Charles H. Sloan, Thomas J. Keenan and William McKinley Sloan. In recent years Corbitt has practiced on his own. He has been a member of the bar for 59 years. Grady Corbitt served as City Attorney for many of the villages in Fillmore county. He was a member of the Geneva Board of Education, vice president of the Geneva State Bank, member of the Geneva library board and president of the Geneva Cemetery Association for 40 years. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masons, Shriners, Knights of Pythias and I.O.O.F. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, son Charles Corbitt, San Francisco, Cal.; Margaret Ann Higley, daughter; grandchildren, Charles Jr., Miami, Fla.; James Carter, Denver, Colo.; Steven, San Francisco, David G. Higley, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Elizabeth Anne Higley, Birmingham, Ala.; Drew W. Higley, Grand Rapids, and a great-grandchild, Hilary Corbitt, Denver, Colo. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 6, at the United Methodist church in Geneva. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal February 1980
