Description	:	CORBITT, ETHEL—Ethel Sloan Corbitt of Geneva departed this life at the age of 90. She survived her husband, Grady Corbitt by eight months. Mrs. Corbitt, the eldest of four children of the late Charles Henry Sloan and Emma Margaret Porter Sloan, was born in Fairmont on July 13, 1890. She survived her husband, Grady Corbitt by eight months. Mrs. Corbitt, the eldest of four children of the late Charles Henry Sloan and Emma Margaret Porter Sloan, was born in Fairmont on July 13, 1890. Mrs. Corbitt, while residing at the Heritage of Geneva passed away suddenly on October 19, 1980. She graduated from Geneva high school and the University of Nebraska. She majored in home economics. At the University, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was elected to Mortar Board. She moved with her family to Washington, D.C. where her father, Charles H. Sloan, was a distinguished Republican Fourth District Congressman from the state of Nebraska. On January 2, 1919, she was married to Grady Corbitt of Ozark, Ala., who she met while he was secretary to Senator Stezall in Washington, D.C. At the time they were married, Mr. Corbitt was in the Consular Service stationed in Lyons, France. They moved to France and remained there until early 1920. After living in Washington, D.C. and France, they returned to the United States and took residence in Geneva for the remainder of their lives. Mrs. Corbitt was a longstanding member of the Methodist church of Geneva where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, Eastern Star and the Madre Kensington. Mrs. Corbitt enjoyed reading and was well informed on the classics and was versed in the Bible. Quiet of disposition, filled with kindness and seeing the good qualities in people. She was devoted to her parents, husband, children and grandchildren. Her father, Charles Henry Sloan was born May 2, 1863, Monticello, Ia., deceased June 2, 1946, Geneva. Her mother, Emma Margaret Porter Sloan, was born December 25, 1859, Jedda, Ia., deceased October 19, 1946, Geneva. Her brothers Frank Blaine Sloan, Charles Porter Sloan, William McKinley Sloan, all predeceased her. Her survivors include her two children: Charles Windsor Corbitt of San Francisco, Cal., and Margaret Anne Corbitt Higley of Grand Rapids, Mich; grandchildren, Charles W. Corbitt Jr., of Miami, Fla., James Carter Corbitt and Steven Randolph Corbitt of San Francisco, Cal., David Grady Higley, Elizabeth Anne Higley Saker and Drew Windsor Higley of Grand Rapids, Mich., and one great-granddaughter, Hilary Claire Corbitt, of San Francisco, Cal. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Geneva on Wednesday, October 22, with Rev. Jay Funk officiating. Pallbearers were Sherman F. Ashby, Robert Bailey, Gary Elznic, John C. Gewacke, K. Bill Shaner and Hugh Wilkins. The organist was Mrs. Norval Lomax and the vocalist was Daniel Petersen. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
