Read More	Wenatchee World - Mar 10, 1999 Grant Alden Verbeck, 49, of Cle Elum, died of heart failure associated with an automobile accident Friday, March 5, 1999 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue. He was born on Oct. 14, 1949 at Tonasket, the son of Raymond and Bertha (Longanecker) Verbeck. He was a member of the Ellisforde Church of the Brethren and graduated from Tonasket High School in 1968. After graduation, Cle Elum became his primary residence from which he went periodically to visit and live with friends throughout the country. Grant lived a very simple life according to his belief. He continuously and quietly worked to alleviate human suffering and injustice in the communities and world around him. He was very active in the Church of the Brethren Disaster Response Program. He participated in projects throughout the U.S., as well as Nicaragua, Brazil, Suden, and the Caribbean. Grant was known for his skill as a carpenter and also worked for many years in the orchards of Okanogan County. He loved hiking and being in the outdoors. Grant is survived by his father, Raymond of Cle Elum; brother, Kent of Cle Elum; sister, Latricia and Derek Stevens of Bellingham; nieces and nephews, Eric, Brian, Katie and their families. Grant also is remembered by many relatives and friends across the country...he touched many people's lives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Ellisforde Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ernie Bolz, officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellisforde Brethren Cemetery. A memorial celebration of Grant's life will occur at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 1999 at Camp Koinonia near Cle Elum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Church of the Brethren Emergency Disaster Fund, 1451 Dundee Ave., Elgin, IL 60120. Bergh Funeral Service of Oroville in care of arrangements.
