Description	:	Greeley W. Rickert, 95, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, September 7, 2017, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney, Nebraska. A Memorial Service will be held on September 18 at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Michael Klatt and Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Private family inurnment with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard will be held in the Columbus Cemetery prior to the service. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church. Greeley Wilhelm Rickert was born April 9, 1922 in Platte County, Nebraska to William and Emma (Groteluschen) Rickert. He was the third of ten children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shell Creek. He sang in the church choir and was a member of Lutheran League. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1940. Greeley was an Air Force pilot serving from October 1942 to December 1945. He received a year of college and was trained as a fighter and bomber pilot. He was selected from his aviation class to give the Coupe Commander a check ride in aerobatics flying and rated outstanding. On August 20, 1945, Greeley married Mary Jayne Nelson of Merced, California at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona. They lived in California for ten years. He graduated from American School of Watchmaking in Los Angeles. Greeley and Mary Jayne moved to Columbus in 1957. He owned and operated Rickert Jewelers for 26 years. He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of Sky Roamers Flying Club and taught many members how to fly. He was a member of American Legion Post 84, the Apollo Club men’s chorus for 12 years, and Sertoma Club. Greeley enjoyed golfing, bowling, pool games, dancing, and socializing with friends. They wintered in Phoenix for 16 years. He had a great love for music and traveling Europe, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and going on a Caribbean cruise. Greeley is survived by: Wife: Mary Jayne Rickert of Kearney, NE Daughter: Cathy (Bill) Walters of Kearney, NE Son: Gary (Julie) Rickert of North Liberty, IA Grandchildren: Ryan (Mayra) Walters of Indian Hills, CO; Navy pilot Kyle Rickert of Lemoore, CA; Kelli (Joey) Caroselli of Kearney, NE; Erin Rickert of Kansas City, MO Sisters-in-Law: Erma Rickert of Aurora, NE; Ruth Rickert and Laverna Rickert of Columbus, NE Many Nieces and Nephews Greeley was preceded in death by: Parents: William and Emma Rickert Sisters: Vernetta Rickert and Viola Piper Brothers: Clarence, Martin, Adolph, and Marvin Sister-in-Law: Irene Rickert
