Description	:	Marvin W. Rickert, 81, of Columbus, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, in Columbus. The funeral service will be held on Friday, at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 325th St. and 122nd Ave., in rural Columbus with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4-7 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church with a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. In lieu... Marvin was born June 19, 1929, on the family farm in Platte County, to the late William and Emma (Grotelueschen) Rickert. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Shell Creek. Marvin attended Platte County District 2 School and Kramer High School in Columbus. Marvin served his country from 1948-1951 in the United States Army Transportation Corp. On Sept. 4, 1953, Marvin was united in marriage to Laverna Janssen at St. John's Lutheran Church (LCMS) in rural Columbus. They farmed in rural Leigh before moving to Columbus in 1986. For many years, Marvin sold Pioneer Seed Corn. Marvin's passion for life was the farm. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing competitive horseshoes. He enjoyed visiting and socializing with everyone that he met, and no man was a stranger for long with Marvin. Marvin was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as a Chairman of the Voter's Assembly, usher, member of the Christian Growth for Both, and served on the Christ Lutheran School Board of Education. He served as President for Daily Devotions for many years. Marvin is survived by his wife, Laverna Rickert, of Columbus; son, Richard and Judy (Drinnin) Rickert, of Westminster, Colo., grandson, Matthew and Lexie (Scholting) Rickert, of Omaha, granddaughter, Jennifer (Rickert) and Jeremy Madden, of Gering, great-granddaughters, Abigail, Samantha and Kadence Madden; son, Ronald and Susan (Dudley) Rickert, of Geneva, grandson, Benjamin and Ashlee (Adkisson) Rickert, of Seward, great-grandson, Adam Rickert, grandson, Robert Rickert, of Lincoln, grandson, Samuel Rickert, of Geneva; daughter, Sandra (Rickert) and Tom Wieser, of Lincoln, granddaughters, Kaley, Kelsey, Kristy, and Karly Wieser, of Lincoln, grandson, Kyle Wieser, of Lincoln; brother, Greeley (Mary Jayne) Rickert, of Columbus; sister, Doris (Richard) Loseke, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sisters-in-law, Erma Rickert, of Aurora, and Ruth Rickert, of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Annette Mohlman and Esther Dirks, both of Columbus, Willa Mae Janssen, of Arvada, Colo., and Shirley Wagner, of Clarks; brother-in-law, Ken (Betty) Janssen, of Springdale, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma (Grotelueschen) Rickert; brothers, Clarence, Martin and Adolph Rickert, an infant brother, Helmut; and sisters, Vernetta Rickert, Viola Piper and Marlene Koch.
