Clay "Sonny" Chapman, 80, of Route 4, Ottumwa died 6:5 a.m., Dec. 3, 1998, at his home. He was born on Aug. 2, 1918 in Ottumwa to G. Clay and Elvira Cundiff Chapman. He married Violet Fay on July 4, 1941. He lived in Ottumwa all his life. He farmed on Route 4 and was an employee of the A.S.C.S. office for 17 years. He was a member of Willard Street United Methodist Church, Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., Ottumwa Chapter #112 Order of Eastern Star, Wapello White Shrine #4, Dudes and Dolls and B Squares. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Patricia of Calif.; a son, Timothy of Calif.; two grandsons; a great-grandson; a brother, Glenn Chapman of West Des Moines; and a sister, Frances Blanchard of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Scully and Cleora Thorne; and a brother, Everett Chapman. The Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Stephanie Raphael-Nakos of Willard Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Sam Rodgers, Ronald Throne, Dale Schimmelpfennig, Richard and William Houk and Robert Hopkins. Honorary bearers will be David Hughes and Paul Carruthers. Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Regional Health Foundation for Dialysis Unit.
