Dodd was born in Franklin county, Virginia, Nov 26, 1823. Died at Prairie Grove, Iowa, about 4 o’clock Monday morning June 30, 1902, of neuralgia of the heart, after an illiness of but a few hours. Mr. Dood was married to Miss Harriet Smith in Putman county, Indiana and in a short time moved to Hancock county, Illnois. In the fall of ‘49 came to Marion county, Iowa, and in April following to Clarke county, locating in Osceola. Here he lived and followed blacksmithing for thirty-two years when he went to Prairie Grove where he spent the remaining twenty years of his life--the honored and respected citizen always. Funeral services were held from his late home, Tuesday, July 1, conducted by the Rev. John White of Madison county, in the presence of a large gathering of friends. The six children were present at the funeral. Forty carriages followed the remains to Field’s cemetery. Deceased was a member of the Masonic order, and was for many years the Democrat’s valued correspondent from Prairie Grove--known as “The Village Blacksmith.” [Typos are as found printed in the newspaper.]
