Read More	MILLS, GRETCHEN ELOISE—At the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mills, in Geneva, Neb., at 7:45 p. m. Friday, December 15, 1911, Gretchen Eloise Mills aged 16 years, 9 months and 12 days. The deceased submitted to a surgical operation Wednesday for the removal of her tonsils, apparently without any ill effect. On Friday a hemorrhage of the throat set in. Several physicians gave their best efforts but without avail and death followed in a few hours, causing great shock in the community. She had been a sufferer from a serious ailment caused by scarlet fever that affected the region near the right ear and she was preparing to go to Omaha to enter a hospital for a surgical operation for the relief of that difficulty. Gretchen Eloise Mills was born and reared in this city, her parents and the parents of her mother among the early settlers of the county. She was a member of the senior class of high school and would have graduated next May. The funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and drew together a very large company of friends of the family and schoolmates of the deceased. The funeral service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. L. Myers, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Bitler of Boston. The faculty and pupils of the high school attended in a body. The high school sang, “Abide With Me,” the remainder of the music being by the choir of the church. The floral offerings were probably the most abundant ever seen on a similar occasion in Geneva. High school boys acted as pall bearers. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 22nd, 1911 page 2. DOB is calculated.
