Description	:	Gunnar B. Clausen, 91, of Columbus died Monday, May 14, 2018, at his residence in Columbus. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with The Rev. Michael Klatt and The Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Gunnar Bernhardt Clausen was born March 8, 1927, on the family farm south of Lindsay to Karsten and Emma (Damgaard) Clausen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church at Rosenborg. Gunnar attended Platte County District 51 School and worked on the farm and as a carpenter prior to entering the United States Army on Oct. 9, 1950. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 25, 1952. On Feb. 8, 1953, Gunnar was united in marriage to Isabelle Gossman. Gunnar worked for Clarence Mimick Construction for carpentry work a number of years. He was a licensed electrician, and worked for Columbus Public Schools as building and grounds supervisor for 25 years. Gunnar was known as “Mr. Fix It” to many. Gunnar was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church where he had served as an usher and on the board of trustees. He belonged to Izaak Walton, Ducks Unlimited, Harold's Squares, and the American Legion. Gunnar enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family. Gunnar is survived by his wife, Isabelle Clausen of Columbus, daughter Linda (Dennis) Beaton of Greeley, Colorado; son Terry (Terri) Clausen of Columbus, daughter-in-law Roberta Clausen of Newport, Washington;seven granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren, brother Melvin Clausen of Boise, Idaho; sister Eva Jepsen of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; sister Alta Berkstresser of Denver and sister-in-law Roberta Clausen of Genoa. Gunnar was preceded in death by his parents, Karsten and Emma Clausen, son Leon Clausen, twin brothers Herbert and Harold Clausen, brothers-in-law Harvey Jepsen and George Berkstresser and sisters-in-law Lila and Gertie Clausen.
