Stokes, well known and highly regarded for- mer Crisfield matron, died at her home in Baltimore Wednesday morning, Dec. 31st, suddenly from a heart attack while at breakfast with her family. She was 65 years of age. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary E. Blueford, who moved to Crisfield from St. Mary's County many years ago, and was the wife of Mr. Howard J. Stokes, who sur- vives her. She had been living in Baltimore for the past 18 years. Mrs. Stokes had lived in Cris- field for most of her life. She was a woman of generous nature, of fine principles, and many could attest to her kind disposition and the help she had given upon many occasions to those who were ill or distressed. Because of her helpfulness, sympathy and ability to bring cheer she had made a host of de- voted friends who sincerely mourn her death. Brought from Baltimore, she rested at the Covington Funeral Home until 12:00 noon Sunday, when she was carried to the Bap- tist Temple, where funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., with Dr. J. Yancey Pincher, pastor of Marion Baptist Church, and Rev. E. E. Garland, pastor of the Temple, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Crisfield cemetery. Bearers were Wells Marshall, Grover Adams, G. E. Sheriff, Gor- man Moore, Reese Betts and Alden Howard. She is survived by her husband, one son, Carl W.
