He was born in Cook county, Illinois, December 23, 1872, and is a son of Christopher Lindner, a native of Posen, Germany, who was reared and married in that country. Afterward the parents came to America and settled in Illinois, where they remained until 1877, in which year they moved to Iowa, locating in Warren township, Bremer county. The father engaged in farming in that locality for a short time and then moved to Lafayette township, where he purchased a portion of the farm now owned by the subject of this review. This tract comprised at that time one hundred and twenty acres and Christopher Lindner owned also eleven acres of timber land on the Cedar river. He resided upon his homestead for many years, carrying forward the work of its development until his death in 1901. He was the father of nine children, two of whom died in Illinois. Gustave G. Lindner was five years of age when he came with his parents to Iowa. He spent his childhood in Bremer county, acquiring his education in the district schools. After his father's death he took charge of the homestead, to which he has since added forty acres, the farm now comprising one hundred and sixty acres. Under his able management this has become one of the finest agricultural properties in the vicinity. There is a modern residence, surrounded by beautiful maple trees, fine barns, a silo and other outbuildings and the equipment is modern in every respect. Corn is the principal crop raised upon the place and Mr. Lindner is also interested in dairying and stock-raising. For the former purpose he keeps a fine herd of Durham cows and he raises Duroc Jersey hogs and Belgian horses. He has made a number of exhibits of corn and grain at the county fairs and has secured many prizes. He is a director in the Cooperative Creamery Company and in business circles is recognized as a man of unusual foresight and sagacity. On the 9th of October, 1896, Mr. Lindner was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Kallmier, a daughter of William Kallmier, an early settler in Bremer county. Mr. and Mrs. Lindner have become the parents of two children, George and Edwin. The parents are members of the Evangelical church. Mr. Lindner has served for the past ten years as secretary of the school board and the cause of education finds in him an earnest and able champion. He is numbered among the successful men of Bremer county, for by his industry and frugality he has accumulated a comfortable competence and has made his farm one of the finest and most productive in his township.
