Read More	GUSTAV RABE DIES AT HIS HOME NEAR RICKETTS FRIDAY _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Crawford County's Highly Re- spected Citizen Dies At Age of 74 Years _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Last week the Bulletin reported the serious illness of Mr. Gustav Rabe, residing about a mile east of Ricketts, but never did we think that in this issue his obituary would have to be published. Mr. Rabe took sick about ten days before his death with pneumonia and all earthly care and help was of no avail. It was in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 1925, about 2:30 o'clock, when his soul took flight to the home above. Gustav Rabe was a man among men, standing for honesty and righteousness, and all who knew him, will testify that no squarer and fairer man to deal with ever lived. Mr. Rabe was a Christian above all, and in his Christianity was practiced in his every day life, he was a sincere believer in the Bible and for years was a member of the Hanover township Lutheran church, holding office in the congregation for over 30 years. Although a busy man he always found time to attend to those duties the office brought to him. His death will be sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends. The funeral services took place Monday at the Hanover Lutheran church, Rev. Runge, his pastor, officiating. The very large attendance showed partly the esteem in which he was held by his neighbors, and other friends. People from all neighboring communities were present, yes even as far as Chicago did some friends come to pay their last respect to the departed. Six of his sons acted as pallbearers and the earthly remains of Mr. Rabe were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church. Mr. Rabe was born in Vorpommern, Germany, June 1, 1850, and received his education in his native land, being 19 years of age when he came to America. He began work in a lumber yard in Chicago, started at the bottom of the ladder but applied himself with such diligence to his work that he was promoted to various positions, becoming foreman for that institution. He continued here until 1879, in the meantime, however, preparing to start in business for himself. In 1879 he came to Crawford county, and took up his home on 110 acres in Morgan township, which he had bought four years previously. He has ever since continued on this place and conducted his affairs with such ability and clear judgment that he at the time of his death owned several hundred acres of land in this county and elsewhere. He was a large stock raiser and feeder, and attained great success in this line. In addition to his agricultural interests he was president of the Farmers Savings Bank of Ricketts, and also president of the Ricketts Telephone Co. On January 23, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Friederika Fischer, and this union was blessed with nineteen children, three of whom having preceded the father into eternity, namely, Martha, wife of Fred Gierstorf, Albert and Sophia. Those living and together with their mother mourn the death of their beloved father are: Gustav of Morgan township; Mrs. H. L.. Moeller of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Ralph Iseman of Denver Colo.; Miss Bertha Rabe, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Martin Rademacher of Hammond, Ind.; John Rabe of Agar, S. Dak.; Mrs. Alfred Matschke of Bloomfield, Nebr.; William and Barney Rabe of Winside, Nebr.; Mrs. Walter Runge of Bonduel, Wis.; Mrs. Chas. Moeller and Mrs. Henry Mueller, both of Ricketts; Walter, Gertrude, Henry and Theodore at home. The Bulletin through the departure of Mr. Rabe loses one of its staunchest friends, a friend very hard to replace.
