Husband to Helen Josephine Michel, daughter of Franz Johannes Michel and Josephine Ida Oestmann OBITUARY: Gustav Wilhelm Bohling, son of August and Anna Maria Petersen Bohling was born May 15, 1904 at Schwalingen, Germany. He was one of ten children born to this marriage. He was baptized on May 22, 1904 and confirmed on March 28, 1918 at the Lutheran church in Neuenkirchen, Germany. He grew up and received his education in Schwalingen, Germany. On May 23, 1923, at the age of 19, Gustav and his lifetime friend, Walter Sohnholz, came to the United States, where he first lived with his sister, Anna Rohrs, in Johnson. He attended Johnson public school for a short time in order to learn the English language. February 4, 1932, he was united in marriage to Helen Josephine Michel at St. Paul (Hickory Grove)Lutheran Church. To this marriage seven children were born. After their marriage, Gustav and his family lived and armed in the Hickory Grove community in 1943, they moved to a farm near St. Mary,Johnson, NE. In May of 1975, Gustav and his wife moved and retired in Johnson, NE. During his residence at the various communities, he was an active member of St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church. St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling, Ne. and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson, NE. In 1980, he had heart surgery and during the years following he suffered from heart problems. February 2, he was admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital. It ws there that he passed away on February 5 having reached the age of 85 years, eight monghs and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, and one son-in-law, William Dieckhoff. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife. Helen Bohling of Johnson. seven children, Irma Dieckhoff of Lincoln, Ne. Vera Mae Lyman and her husband, William of Lincoln, Ne. Norman Bohling and his wife, Arlene of Table Rock, Lonnie Bohling and his wife, Carol of North Bend, Susan Bohling of Auburn, and Joyce DeJonge and her husband, Alan of Elk Creek, Ne. 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one sister, Emma Ray of Oklahoma City, OK. other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Friday, February 9 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Rev. Everett Brailey, officiating. Pallbearers were Leroy Bohling, Ivan Bohling, DeWayne Bohling, Willis Bohling, Don Kiechel, Richard Meyer, Jim Green and Jerry Oestmann. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Rockemann, Leo Blinde, Wilber Hahn and George Moore. Interment was in the St. Matthew Cemetery, Johnson, NE.
