James died July 5, 2000, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Palliative Care Unit. He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Ottumwa to Russell and Mary Jane Pendergraft Guyette. He married Norma Fern Bostic on Nov. 26, 1942, in Bremerton, Wash.; she died July 25, 1984. He married Georgimae Sholes on Oct. 24, 1984, in Ottumwa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A lifelong resident of Ottumwa, he worked for John Morrell & Co. for 24 years and then for Geo. A. Hormel & Co. until retirement in 1986. He coached Midwest Little League Baseball for 19 years. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dean Guyette of Davenport and Michael Guyette of Ottumwa; a daughter, Cassandra Bright of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Saundra Loeckle of Ottumwa; a stepson, Jerry Sholes of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Vernon Guyette of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Wayne Guyette. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Shrine of Memories Funeral Home, the Rev. Loyal Hepker officiating. Burial will be in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, with military honors given by Walter B. Schafer Post #775, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and O.B. Nelson Post #3, American Legion. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
