Guyette Sr., 90, of Ottumwa, died at 6:15 a.m. January 16, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa. He was born February 27, 1925, in Ottumwa to Russell and Mary Jane Pendergraft Guyette. Vernon served in the U.S.Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked 38 years as an over the road driver for Mayflower, retiring in 1986. He was a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Surviving are two sons, Vernon “Bud” (Mary) Guyette and Kevin Guyette, both of Ottumwa; three daughters, Judith Kay (Larry) Farrington of Ottumwa, Kathleen Mitchell of Phoenix, Arizona, and Minnette Baxter of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jason Guyette of Ottumwa, Travis Guyette of Rock Island, Illinois, Scott Grade of South Carolina, Larry Grade of Ottumwa, Shane Muilenburg of Milton, Florida, Samantha Burtis Schmall of Florida, Blaine Baxter of Ottumwa and Kelsy Nicole Guyette of Ottumwa; 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Corlea Sue Burtis; a stepson, Terry Lee Lumsdon; a grandson, Keith Allen Grade; and a brother, Franklin Guyette. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Allison officiating. Entombment will be in Shrine of Memories Mausoleum. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign War and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
