Bereman, 89, who passed away October 29, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Rev. Eldon Shoemaker officiated at the services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. This was photocopied and used for the Obituary with slight editions and additions.) Guy L. Bereman was the son of Flora L. and Samuel T. Bereman, a family of four children. Earl was his oldest brother and Mollie E. was next in age. Roy, his youngest brother, passed away in infancy. Guy L. Bereman was the 3rd oldest born September 11, 1888. All four children were born on a farm close to Wayland, Iowa. At an age of 10 to 12, he went with his mother to town for Adult Choir Practice for the Sunday Morning Church service, at which time he and his mother sang in the Adult Choir of the Methodist Church and Sunday School. His mother having passed away, the father and he remained on the farm for a year or two, then moved to town. His father remarried. At about 15 years of age, he was converted in an Evangelistic Meeting in the Wayland Methodist Church and accepted Christ as his Savior. He was baptised and joined the Methodist Church there. He attended a country school, and then went into higher education (up to the 10th grade.) It was then in March, 1908, that he came to Holyoke, Colorado to be with his brother Earl, to look for employment. Soon after coming to Holyoke, he transferred his church membership to the Holyoke Methodist Church which, at that time, was still in the old building, and started to sing in the adult choir. He also worked in the Sunday school where he was superintendent and secretary and treasurer. He served in the Church as a choir member, Trustee and Board member at different times; also as secretary and treasurer of the board. Having worked for different merchants in Holyoke for a time, he owned and operated Bereman's Cash Store for about three years. He was employed with the Scheuneman Department Store for approximately 29 years. In 1933 he was hired as Town Clerk until 1960 except for one year, approximately 26 years. He was elected Secretary of District 39 School board during the time the new two story brick school building was built. (The building replaced by the new school.) In 1914 he was married to Caroline Gassert. To this union two children were born: Guy Leslie, Jr., of Kirland, Washington, and Anna Margaret Olson of Haxtun, Colorado. The couple had passed their 55th Wedding Anniversary when Caroline passed away May 24, 1969. Guy was a charter member in the Holyoke Lions club and a charter member in the Methodist Men's club, serving in different capacities in the clubs. He was custodian of this church on completion of the last new building of the Methodist church for a while, and then retired. Guy died at the Melissa Memorial Hospital Saturday, October 29th, 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, May 24, 1969, and by a half-sister, Helen, just less than two weeks ago. The survivors are: a son, Lester, and his wife, Marge, of Kirland, Washington; a daughter, Anna Margaret Olson and her husband, Harvey, of Haxtun, Colorado; and four grandchildren; Diane Peterson, Port Angelus, Washington; Susan Bereman, Kirkland, Washington; Jim Olson, Denver, Colorado; and Rick Olson, Eagle, Colorado
