Millard, for more than thirty years a resident of Hawarden, was found: dead about 4: o'clock Tuesday afternoon on the floor of a work room adjoining the boiler room at high school building where he was employed as janitor. He was found by his son, Aylmer Millard,.who assisted with the janitor work.. He had complained of a pain in his side about an hour earlier in the afternoon and was advised to take things easy, but later was about the building attending to his work. A physician was summoned immediately after he was found but life was extinct. Death was attributed to heart failure. Mr. Millard had been ill more or less since the holidays, having been off duty for about three days during this period.. His death came as a great shock to the members of his family and his many friends. Funeral services will be held at the Millard home and' at the Associated church at 2:30 Saturday afternoon with Rev. T. H. Harding in charge. Guy William Millard was born near the present town of Craig, in Plymouth county, Iowa, October 15, 1881, so was past 58 years of age at the time of his death. He grew to young manhood in Plymouth county but came to Hawarden as a young man, operating a barber shop in this city for a time. For a good many years he had been employed as a school janitor, first at the Centeral school building and for a number of years past at the high school. He was united in marriage with Lucetta Green at Huron, S. D. on June 12, 1909, and all their married life has been spent in Hawarden. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Dorothy, who teaches in Sioux City; Mrs.Vivian Gibson, of Des Moines, and Margaret at home; and four sons, Harold and Aylmer of Hawarden, and Ralph and Harvey, who have been in Spokane, Wash., since last summer. A brother of Mrs. Millard, Lawrence Green, was also raised in their home from the time he was a year and a half old. There is also one grandson and one granddaughter. In, addition he is survived by one brother, Charles Millard of Dix, Neb.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mrs. Orpha Noble of Craig; Mrs. O. S. Ayle of Peetz, Colo.; Mrs. O. F. Beldin of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Maud Benton of Los Angeles, Calif. One brother, H. H. Millard, passed away in Washington, D. C., four years. ago. The sons, Ralph and Harvey, are on their way here from Spokane to attend the funeral. Mr. Millard was a fine type, of citizen. Steady and reliable, he gave conscientious attention to his work and never shirked his responsibilities. He and Mrs. Millard have raised a fine family of children to whom he was greatly devoted and no sacrifice on his part was ever too great for. their welfare. For many years he has been affiliated with the Odd Fellow lodge in Hawarden and took an active part in the work of the order.
