The funeral service will be held at the Methodist church tomorrow afternoon. Mr. French had been ailing for the past year and went to Omaha a few weeks ago to see what could be done. It was found that a malignant growth in the stomach was closing the opening into the intestines and his condition was not favorable for an operation. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence French and was born near Arlington February 28th, 1888, so was almost 39 years of age. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Bessie Wilcox June 5th, 1912. Three children were born to them, Myrle, aged 13, Ray 7 and Grace 4. They lived out in Colorado for seven years and moved here about a year ago. Mr. French was serving as deputy county treasurer under Chas. H. Robertson. Besides the wife and three children he leaves ten brothers and sisters, Mrs. Arthur Martson, and Mrs. Donald Johnson, both of Denver, Colo., Everett French of Fremont, Mrs. Fred Plugge, Mrs. Thurman Spangler, Mrs. Ed Nonnamaker, Leslie French, Clarence, Jr. and Miss Viola French, all of Arlington, and Harley French, who lives with his father in Kennard. His mother died in 1911. The bereaved wife, children and relatives have the sincere sympathy of their many friends. #2 Printed in the January 27, 1927 Enterprise, Blair, Nebraska Hallie C. French, deputy treasurer of Washington county, died at the M.E. Hospital in Omaha last Tuesday morning. He has been ailing since last fall but had kept at his work until a few weeks ago when he was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was a native of Washington county, having been born on a farm near Arlington nearly thirty-nine years ago. In 1912 he was married to Miss Bessie Wilcox also of this county and to them three children were born, two daughters and one son. After their marriage they farmed near Arlington until 1919 when they moved to Colorado where they resided until last spring when they returned to this county and later he entered the county treasurer’s office as deputy. The funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the M.E. church of this city with Rev. Bader officiating, and interment was made in the Arlington cemetery. Besides the grief-stricken wife and three little children, he leaves his father, C. M. French of Kennard and four brothers, Everett and Clarence of Fremont, Leslie of Arlington and Harley at home and five sisters, Mrs. Art Martson and Mrs. Donald Johnson of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Thurman Spangler, Mrs. Fred Plugge and Mrs. Ed Nonnemaker, all of Arlington and Viola at home and a host of friends who knew him for his sterling qualities. 27 Jan., 1927 - The Pilot DEPUTY OFFICIAL DIES Halley C. French Expires at Omaha Hospital Tuesday Morning Halley C. French was born near Arlington, Nebraska February 28, 1888, and died at the Methodist hospital in Omaha last Tuesday morning at 2:30 following a lingering illness of six or seven months. He lived with his parents on a farm near Arlington until 1912 when he was married to Bessie Wilcox of Blair. The following spring they moved on a farm near Arlington where they lived until 1919 when his health began to fail him and it was decided that a change of climate should be beneficial to him. Accordingly the family removed to Otis, Colorado and took up farming there. Last spring after disposing of their effects in Colorado, they came to Blair and Mr. French was appointed to the position of deputy county treasurer, which position he filled up to the time of his death. As the winter came on his ailment grew worse and shortly after Christmas he was taken to an Omaha hospital for treatment. It was discovered that he had carcinoma, or a slowly growing cancer, and although medical authorities tried to check its growth, their efforts were in vain. His strength gradually failed him until he expired on Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Blair on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Carl Bader officiating, and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Arlington. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Bessie French; two daughters, Myrie, 13; and Grace, 4; a son, Ray, 7; his father, Clarence M. French of Kennard; four brothers, Everett and Clarence of Fremont; Leslie of Arlington; Harley of Kennard; and six sisters, Mrs Arthur Martson and Mrs. Donald Johnson of Denver, Col.; Mrs. Fred Pluggge, Mrs. Thurman Spangler and Mrs. Ed Nonamoker of Arlington; and Miss Viola French of Kennard, besides a large number of friends by whom he was highly esteemed. ~~~Obituaries courtesy of the Nebraska Washington County Genealogical Society.
