Description	:	Humeston New Era Aug 12, 1903 Ham Poland, who lives in Clay township, about 5 miles south of town, met with a very serious accident on last Thursday afternoon. He was coming to town with a mower and had his hand on the sickle bar which was standing up. As he was driving along the wheel of the mower dropped into a hole, which threw the sickle bar down and jerked Mr. Poland off the machine. Read More	Humeston New Era Aug 12, 1903 Ham Poland, who lives in Clay township, about 5 miles south of town, met with a very serious accident on last Thursday afternoon. He was coming to town with a mower and had his hand on the sickle bar which was standing up. As he was driving along the wheel of the mower dropped into a hole, which threw the sickle bar down and jerked Mr. Poland off the machine. The horses stopped at once and began backing, pushing the machine on to Mr. Poland and dragging him along behind the machine which he thinks finally ran over him. His spine was injured so severly that his legs are paralyzed completely and he can use his arms but very little. Dr. H. T. Smith was called, and is doing everything possible for the injured man, and we hope Mr. Poland will soon be on the road to recovery. Aug 19, 1903 Ham Poland, of Clay township, who we reported last week as having been injured with a mower, is in about the same condition, the physicians reporting little or no improvement. His legs and arms are paralysed, and up to the present time he has not gained any use of himself. His hosts of friends are anxiously hoping that he may yet recover. Oct 14, 1903 Charles Baltimore and wife, who have been making their home in Oklahoma, are here helping to care for Mrs. Baltimore's father, Ham Poland, who was seriously injured by being run over by a mowing machine several weeks ago. Mr. Poland was paralyzed, and is making very slow progress toward recovery. Humeston New Era Dec. 2 1903 Ham Poland, one of the most porminent and highly esteemed farmers of Clay township, died Monday at noon. Mr. Poland was injured some time ago by a mowing machine, since which time he has gradually declined until the end. The funeral services will be held today, conducted by Rev. Clark, of Unity church, and interment will take place at the Mallette cemetery (now known as Green Bay)
