The deceased was the mother of Noah Harding, and lived, with her husband, at the corner of Sixth and Greene streets. The deceased was the mother of Noah Harding, and lived, with her husband, at the corner of Sixth and Greene streets. Old age brought its attendant ailments, and the old lady had been in ill health for years. At times she suffered slight aberration of mind, but was not considered any ways out of her head yesterday. During the noon hour Noah Harding, who lives across the street, about a block away, called at the house, as is his usual custom every day, and found his mother and father all right. In the course of the afternoon Mrs. Noah Harding called in. The old gentleman was down town and Mrs. Harding looked over the house for the old lady. Not finding her in the upper rooms she looked through the basement and opening the door into a small closet, or cellar, off the basement found her handing to the rafters—dead. She had wound ordinary pack thread, such as is used to do up express packages, several times around her neck, and then fastened it above. The space was so low she had to bend her knees to stretch the rope. Coroner DeTar was notified and empanelled a jury consisting of Samuel Crabtree, H. James, and Jacob Stevens, whose verdict was that she took her life while temporarily insane. The deceased had lived with her husband 62 years, and the decline of her life was quiet and peaceful.
