He was 90 years old. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jesse Harding, the venerable father of Noah Harding, died suddenly and peacefully at the home of his son on Thursday evening. There was nothing particularly the matter with him—he had passed 90 years of age and the sands of life ran out. He was in his usual health at supper that evening and sat down with the rest, but suddenly fell in a faint. Help was sent for, but the heart that for over 90 years sent the blood back and forth through his frame had ceased its functions and the old gentleman was dead. The deceased was an old resident of Boone, having lived here since 1869, but he was already an old man then and has not been in active life. The Hardings are all well known here, but it is the younger generation—and not so young either, for his children have grandchildren. He was born in Kentucky, in the early days of this century, and saw wonderful changes. The war of 1812, Napoleon's invasion of Russia and fall at Waterloo, the introduction of steamboats, railroads and telegraphs, the sewing machine and reaper, the steam printing press and the present mail service—all these great events and inventions were within the lifetime of the kindly old man that has now passed to his eternal rest, full of years, respected by all, leaving behind him the noblest record a man can leave—an honest name.
